Children and young people's sector fear their voice is not being heard

A new report, produced by the Department for Education Strategic Partners, has shown that although organisations working with children and young people are well informed, that they are limited by a lack of funding, and believe that the while the government may listen, they do not act on their advice. Awareness of government policy, funding streams and sources of information, such as regional or umbrella organisations, newsletters and policy bulletins, seemed high, however, around 85% of respondents believed that their views influenced government neither clearly nor unclearly, not that clearly or not at all.
The survey is the first of a series of consultations which will be carried out by the Department for Education Strategic Partners. Respondents came from 50 organisations of various sizes, locations and specialisms who are working with children and young people. They were asked about sector capacity and sustainability, voice and influence, and the accessibility and coherence of sector support in the context of a changing policy and funding landscape.
