Response to comments by Diane Abbott MP

Stereotypical generalisations are wrong and it is right that Diane Abbott MP has now apologised for her Twitter comments. Unfortunately these comments have had the effect of distracting public debate from many of the challenges still faced by Britain in progressing race equality. While the convictions in the Stephen Lawrence murder trial show some of the progress that has been made in combatting racism, the fact that others remain free suggests that more still needs to be done.
