Statement on Doreen Lawrence interview
Posted on Wed 19 Dec 2012
The Race Equality Foundation welcomes Doreen Lawrence’s statement in the Guardian today raising concerns about the current government’s commitment to race equality.
The Foundation has been working consistently with colleagues in the black and minority ethnic voluntary and community sector through the BME VCS Coalition to keep race equality on the agenda and ensure it remains a government priority.
Ratna Dutt, Chief Executive of the Race Equality Foundation, says:
"The work of the Foundation has consistently shown how racial discrimination can be overcome in a range of services. However, our work and that of many others shows that racism persists and requires local and national action. This action has to be given leadership by Government and it is increasingly difficult to find this leadership. The Foundation will continue to work to ensure that racism is challenged and that this is supported by appropriate legislation and government action."
